The Clinton County Public Defender's Office has an immediate job opening for an Assistant Public Defender. The Public Defender's Office is a 3 attorney office representing indigent clients in criminal, traffic, and child support matters where jail is a possibility. Assistant attorneys will get practice in felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile work. Assistant attorneys must feel comfortable and confident in a court room setting as well as working with indigent clients. Job responsibilities will include: representing clients at pretrials, preliminary hearings, probation violation hearings, motion hearings, and trials as well as setting appointments with clients and filing pretrial motions as needed. As a small office, we are in need of someone who is a fast learner and self-motivated. The starting salary is $47,500 or based on experience. The office hours are 8:00-4:00, with court typically in session between 9-4. This is a full time position with a 40 hour work week.
