If you are committed to the Department of Youth Services, ask your attorney or judge about credit for detention time.

Your time spent in detention in connection with a delinquency complaint must be subtracted from your minimum sentence to the Department of Youth Services (DYS) under Ohio Law. [Ohio Revised Code § 2151.355 (F)(6)]

For example, you spent 30 days in detention and then you were transferred to DYS. If your original minimum commitment was 6 months, the detention credit would change your minimum commitment to 5 months.

Once you are in detention, you have already started serving your sentence. Ask for credit for the time you have served.
