Gregory W. Meyers
Chief Counsel, to the Office Ohio Public Defender
Greg Meyers has been with the Ohio
Public Defender since 1996, and currently serves as
Chief Counsel to the Office of the Ohio Public
Defender. Meyers
defends Ohio’s capital clients and supports teams
of lawyers, mitigation specialists, investigators, and
support staff from trial on through federal habeas
review.
Meyers earned his Juris Doctor
degree from The Ohio State University School of Law in
1983, and was awarded the Harry S. Lett Award for
Graduating Student Most Dedicated to Civil Rights. He
also holds a Bachelors degree in both Religion and
Government from Oberlin College.
Before working with the Ohio Public
Defender, Meyers worked with the Franklin County
Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Public
Defender for six years, and also for the Ohio Legal
Rights Service as a Staff Attorney. This previous
employment was devoted to criminal defense, and Meyers
litigated more than sixty-five jury trials, including
more than forty-five felony cases. Meyers has
represented literally thousands of criminal
defendants, including those facing Aggravated Murder
with Death Penalty Specifications’ more than three
dozen facing other homicide charges; and hundreds
facing Aggravated Felonies in the First or Second
degree.
